Thanks to Cracked, I learned that the screenwriter of Alien (Daniel O'Bannon) wanted to create a movie that would be full of subliminal context that would make people think of rape. Not just any rape though. He didn't want to make women afraid, he wanted to "make the men in the audience cross their legs". How? "Homosexual oral rape, birth. The thing lays its eggs down your throat, the whole number".
If you're a hardcore Alien fan, you know the creature was created by Swiss artist H.R. Giger. Giger's artistry was a mix of biology, mechanics, and sex. His dark imagery was inspiring to Daniel O'Bannon who suggested the artist to Ridley Scott, the director. Scott approved and asked Giger to come up with the visuals for the movie.
